Welcome to The Plains, Virginia

In The Plains, community and heritage come together to create a vibrant and welcoming small-town atmosphere. Our local government is dedicated to fostering a friendly environment and ensuring a high quality of life for all our residents and visitors.

We’re so glad you’re here. Whether you’ve just moved in or are getting settled, this quick guide will help you feel at home in no time.

In Case of Emergency

Call 911 for any emergency. Our town is served by:

– Fauquier County Sheriff’s Department

– The Plains Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company

They’ve got us covered!

Water & Sewer Issues

If there’s a problem with your water or sewer service, call the Fauquier County Water and Sewer Authority:

– Daytime: (540) 349-2092

– After hours: (703) 551-6900

Road Problems?

For street or road issues (like potholes or maintenance), contact VDOT’s Warrenton Office at:

(540) 347-6441

Trash Pickup

Trash day is Wednesday—just set your bin out early that morning.

Please note: The Town itself doesn’t run police, fire, rescue, water, sewer, or street services, and we don’t have a public works department. But we’ll help connect you to the right folks when needed!

Town Meetings & Community Info

Public meetings happen at Town Hall – 6451 Main Street.

Agendas and notices are posted 3 days before each meeting on the bulletin board at: The Plains Post Office – 4314 Fauquier Avenue

We keep this tradition going to help neighbors stay connected—it’s part of what makes The Plains special. Chatting at the post office or attending a Town Hall meeting is still the best way to stay in the loop!

Reaching Town Officials

We don’t have a physical town office to stop by, but help is just a phone call away.

– Town Clerk/Treasurer: (540) 364-4945

Need to meet with a town official? Just call to set up an appointment.

You’ll also find meeting agendas and documents at the Fauquier County Library in Marshall (4133 Rectortown Road) three days before meetings.

Meeting Schedule

Here’s when our regular meetings happen:

– Town Council – 3rd Monday @ 7:30 PM

– Planning Commission – 4th Monday @ 7:00 PM

– Architectural Review Board – 1st Monday @ 7:00 PM

– Board of Zoning Appeals / Parks Authority – As needed

Public Hearings

Stop by a Town Hall meeting or say hello at the post office. Welcome to The Plains!

Our website is getting a fresh new look thanks to Rambletype. Some details might still be catching up—thanks for your patience while we improve things!
